Points to Ponder on Teenage Cosmetic Surgery

By

Cosmetic surgery is a most likely option for teenagers when most of their friends are going through it and especially if the celebrities they idolize subject themselves to the process too. If your teenager is egging you to allow her to go through a particular aesthetic surgery, think about the many factors that may affect your decision as a parent.

Teenagers Are Conscious About Their Physical Appearance

Like most adults, teenagers are also self-conscious about the way they look especially that this is the stage where they are struggling for acceptance and for a sense of belongingness. It is important for them to feel accepted by their peers and to act normally or blend in a crowd. Any peculiarity could result to mockery, isolation and ultimately depression. This is one of the reasons why teenagers want to have what most teenagers have; a normal shape of nose, ears that do not stick out, average weight and normal set of breasts. When they are slightly different that’s when they feel and look weird so they think that the most convenient way to address that is to go through cosmetic surgery. Ask your teenager why she wants to go through the process and if she is doing it for herself or for others.

A Teenager’s Body Is Still on Its Development Stage

It is important for you to consider that a teenager’s body is still a work in progress so if your child is complaining about her small breasts, try to make her understand that they are still developing and some women are not genetically endowed to have large bosoms. Also, a slightly huge nose can look proportionate on the face when your child’s face fully develops. Tell your child to give it more time and allow her body to fully develop and until then, if she still feels that she needs the help of cosmetic surgery, you can start considering the procedure seriously.

Consider Other Options

Aside from taking liposuction as a way to reduce weight and eliminate unwanted baby fats, you can provide other options for your teenager such as engaging her to sports and other physical activities, buying her a bike or a nice rubber shoes for jogging will also encourage her to go out and reduce weight. You can encourage your child to do mountain climbing and other outdoor activities and exercise to avoid the perils of cosmetic surgery especially to her young body.
