Cosmetic Surgery: How Can You Be Safe With It?

By

Cosmetic surgery is a generally safe medical procedure that provides physical enhancement, self satisfaction and boosts self confidence. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), only 1 out of 57,000 procedures conducted involve fatality. However, one fatality doesn’t mean there is no fatality at all. If you are thinking about going through a cosmetic surgical procedure, for your safety, it is important for you to weigh things first before deciding to go through it. First you need to consider if you really need it. If you do need it, at least take the following safety precautions and important considerations:

  • +Consult a certified general physician first to check if you are in perfect health condition. Cosmetic surgery may be safe but it is still an invasive procedure and can still be risky especially if you are not fit for such operation. It is particularly important for you to be checked before the procedure if you would go through a same-day surgery where you would go home right after the process. If you have serious medical condition such as diabetes, HIV, high blood pressure and such, you should inform your physician or surgeon about it.

  • If the cosmetic surgeon tells you that you are not fit for a cosmetic surgery especially for a same-day surgery, take the advice since they know what’s best for you in terms of surgical procedure. You may find a surgeon who will agree to what you want but you can never be sure that you would be safe since another expert has already advised you against it.

  • Always look for a second or third opinion before jumping in to the process. Listen to every cosmetic surgeon you consulted then decide which among them gave you a thorough explanation, which of them is reasonably priced, certified and with a good professional background.

  • You would put your health and life at the hands of another person so it is important that the person you entrust your life with should be capable and of course, a certified one. Always go for a board-certified surgeon because it means that they went through proper training and are technically equipped to handle cosmetic surgery. Not only should the surgeon be certified, the facility should also be accredited. It would also be better if the surgeon is going through a continuing medical education requirements and one who adheres to code of ethics.

Good advice to find accredited facilities and board certified physicians whether having cosmetic or any other kind of surgery. There is always a risk involved!
