Common Teen Cosmetic Surgery Procedures

Cosmetic surgery is a medical procedure that is conducted to a specific part of the body to enhance its physical appearance such as augmentation mammoplasty or the enhancement of the breasts, reduction mammoplasty, rhinoplasty or the reshaping of the nose and liposuction which is the removal of fat deposits in a specific area in the body.

Currently, the numbers of teenagers who go for aesthetic procedure are on the rise. More and more teenagers below 18 years old are subjecting themselves to plastic surgery of various kinds in order to belong and look more acceptable to their friends and the people around them. On the other hand, adults go for cosmetic surgery to stand out and to retain their youth.

Aesthetic Procedures

Cosmetic surgery no matter how safe and effective can still cause stress especially to young bodies that may not still be viable for surgical process. Doctors conduct psychological tests to teenagers who want to go through aesthetic surgery to ensure that the patients are ready for it. some surgeons do not perform certain procedures such as rhinoplasty until the teenagers turn at least  15 or 16 for girls while a year older for boys. Girls who want to augment their breasts for aesthetic reasons are advised to skip the process until they are at least 18 years old.

Aesthetic Surgery Commonly Availed by Teenagers

Some of the most common aesthetic surgery preferred by teenagers includes the following:

  • Otoplasty. Teenagers who have ears sticking out are commonly subjected to ridicule. To avoid this, some teenagers who has this physical obscurity go through otoplasty or the surgical process wherein the ears that stick out are pinned back to make them look like everybody else’s ears.
  •  Dermabrasion. Puberty naturally causes hormonal surge resulting to the appearance of acne. Severe acne could result to scarring on the face and for some teenagers; this could be disturbing so they opt for dermabrasion. The procedure is done using laser and is normally painless. Most teenagers who went through this procedure are commonly satisfied with the results.
  • Reduction mammoplasty. This procedure is also called breast reduction. Teenagers who have exceptionally large busts for their age opt for this type of cosmetic surgery procedure to avoid mockery from peers.  
  • Nose reshaping. This is conducted to teenagers who are not very satisfied with the shape of their nose.  This is also one of the most common procedures among youngsters who want to stand out among their peers.
